About the HC Coombs Policy Forum

The HC Coombs Policy Forum is a strategic collaboration between the Australian Government and ANU, at Crawford School of Public Policy. It focuses on supporting policy-relevant exploratory and experimental work at the interface between government and academia. This policy work is carried out in partnership with government by setting mutually agreed objectives and also by providing opportunities for government officials to spend time at ANU working on specific policy projects. In collaboration with research centres in Crawford School and elsewhere at ANU, the HC Coombs Policy Forum also organises public lectures and contributes to public debate. In addition, the HC Coombs Policy Forum plays an important national role via a co-production relationship with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (delivering the Future Forum television series). The HC Coombs Policy Forum is administered by the Department of Education on behalf of the Australian Government as a whole.

HC Coombs Policy Forum is a key element of the Australian National Institute of Public Policy (ANIPP), located at Crawford School.

The HC Coombs Policy Forum:

  • provides a key national interface between the research community and the Australian Public Service (APS)
  • enhances the evidence base for public policy through targeted projects in line with government needs
  • commissions and publishes analysis of longer-term challenges and opportunities for Australia
  • provides a forum for broader public debate of key policy challenges facing the nation.
