Visioning Australia's Future

The HC Coombs Policy Forum is undertaking an integrated series of forward looking research projects called ‘Visioning Australia’s Future’. These will be multidisciplinary horizon-scanning exercises designed to inform policymaking and public debate over the coming years. The initial focus will be on Australia’s economic and social fabric and the nation’s ability to manage the implications of the resources boom and a ‘patchwork’ economy. Current projects are:

  1. the future of the “patchwork economy” and the national balance sheet
  2. the future of labour market participation for enhancing productivity
  3. the future of rural and regional Australia.

The projects will be commissioned and actively managed by the HC Coombs Policy Forum in partnership with senior ANU academic staff, other researchers as necessary and identified government representatives.

The full set of summaries, papers and a synthesis report of the commissioned work can be found at Coombs Forum publications

'Scoping a vision for the future of rural and regional Australia: A discussion paper' prepared by the National Institute for Rural and Regional Australia is available here.
